Can you believe that we are already into the third month of the year? It's amazing how time flies. We, here at Thrive, ushered in the New Year with ideas, plans, and inspiration. Our Staff members spent a weekend in Twin Peaks sharing, praying, and preparing for what's to come. We worked through our theme, our symbolic bible verse, and plans for how we'll engage with our moms, and how we'll spend time together. We want you to know that we cultivate our interactions. We plan our events and activities with the intent to encourage fellowship, faith, empowerment and true, heartfelt, support through whatever season you're going through. So, let's explore.
Thrive Single Mom's is partnered with Hannah's House of Hope. This is a transitional home for women and children who are fleeing lives of abuse, abandonment, and apathy; and bring them to a place of whole family health. We want to help our moms heal, in all ways; and empower them. The physical property sits on a small piece of land, with both front and back yards. Behind the backyard was an empty lot. Through a series of short introductions, small conversations, and big dreams; we have turned that empty lot into a Community Learning Garden. Some of our moms have garden boxes and have already planted their first round of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. We've partnered with local churches and businesses including the University of Redlands, Empire Builders, Crosswalk Church, The Blessing Center, The Connecting Place with University Church, Serrano Nursery & Landscape, Gardenworks for Kids, Cherry Valley Nursery, Fire A Pizza Co., and Kaiser Permanente "Docs with Frocks". We took what we had-- and we made it better.
Our mission for 2019 is to "cultivate abundance". We want to create, foster, nurture and truly cultivate abundance. What does abundance mean to you? For some, the word abundance brings about the image of more, of overflowing, of "runneth over". But we are not talking about that type of abundance. We want what we have -- but we want it better. More. Better. We want to groom, prune, and purge what we have, and bring it to a place of betterment; contentment. We want to nurture and cultivate what we have.
We have designed a series of workshops to bring us, consciously, to this place as the leaders and providers of our families. Our first workshop was adapted from the ALIGNED Training created by our Program and Content Director; Karen Kamenwa. This workshop is an in-depth assessment exploring our wants, hopes, and dreams. With a variety of well written questions and prompts, we have been able to identify what we want, and create a plan on how to get it. The purpose is to consciously bring our goals to the center of our attention. We want to create an outline, and plan of action to bring those goals to reality.
March will bring the exploration of Healthy Relationships. A lot of us do not have healthy relationships to model. And a lot of us are recovering abuse and severe dysfunction; which makes recognizing a healthy relationship even harder. We want to end that deficiency and teach our moms and their families, how to see and establish healthy relationships. We will be discussing the construction and maintenance of boundaries, effective communication, personal safety, trust, and conflict resolution. We are very excited to be able to break these topics down into digestible pieces-- with education, and always with love and encouragement.
Each month we will explore just a little more of the narrative of Isaiah 54. We want to really encourage everyone to think ahead, plan for the long term, and take steps everyday to get you there. The most important task is to take steps, even “imperfect steps”. Because any steps are better than no steps.
This year is sure to be amazing. We have so many events planned. Once again, we will host an Easter Egg Hunt, and a Mother's Day Tea Party. Honoring our moms with tiny sandwiches, fine china and exceptional teas is just one way we like to highlight them and their dedication to their families. This coming summer we will host our Second Annual Family CampOut, followed by ThriveGiving. We hope to see you join and support us along the way.
