In keeping with our verse, concept, and plans for 2019, we followed up what we’ve been learning throughout the book of Isaiah, and attended a workshop on Healthy Relationships. Our facilitator Char Kemper, helped us characterize and identify the aspects of healthy and unhealthy relationships. We discussed personality types, breaking the patterns we have become accustomed to, and establishing and enforcing boundaries.
We also discussed how certain parts of our personalities are vastly influenced by our family and home life. We were encouraged to embrace both the good and bad and figure out, for ourselves, how to make it work for us, and the family we want. One of our most significant takeaways was that it takes only "thirty minutes a week, to change the heart of a child". Thirty minutes of dedicated love and attention can change a child from angry to loving, from resentful to helpful, from estranged to expressive. That was eye-opening and truly inspiring.
As a group, we charted one of our relationships that did not work out. And were able to identify a time when we should have left-- a time, before we actually left. Our plan is to help our moms see and realize what healthy relationships look like. We want them to take charge of their well-being. We were even coached on how and when to breakup, should the need arise. It was such a great workshop that we had many moms asking when they could learn more. We have worked with Char in the past, and we can't wait to work with her again.

Before leaving, we were invited to ask questions. Our group of attending moms had more than enough to ask. We really want our families and our community to see that if we approach each family, each healing family -- with a concept of Whole Family Wellness, we can bring them all into a place of solid affirming love and encouragement.
